Sarah Cain

Los Angeles-based artist Sarah Cain paints exuberant abstractions that often extend beyond the canvas into installations, site-specific painting, stained glass, and furniture. Cain’s painting embraces a strategically intuitive power that both undermines and expands our expectations of what has been historically considered “serious” painting. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at The National Gallery of Art, Washington DC; the Momentary, Bentonville, Arkansas; the Tang Museum, Saratoga, NY; Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles; Aspen Art Museum; Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego; Henry Art Gallery, Seattle; FLAG Art Foundation, New York and Contemporary Art Museum, Raleigh. She has a 150 ft long permanent stained glass wall at the San Francisco International Airport and forthcoming LA Metro Station Commission. Her work canbe found in the collections of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; Blanton Museum of Art in Austin; Dallas Museum of Art; Orange County Museum of Art; the Henry Art Gallery; National Gallery of Art Washington DC; and Pérez Art Museum in Miami, amongst others. Her work has been featured in The New York Times; Vogue; and the LA Times amongst others. Cainreceived her MFA from the University of California at Berkeley 2006.
